The first day of shooting sport finals at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 produced a dramatic finish in the 10m Air Rifle Women final, with Japan’s Hinata Taichi winning gold with an Asian Games Record of 253.0.
Taichi finished just 0.6 points ahead of India’s Elavenil Valarivan, who took silver with 252.4. South Korea’s Ban Hyojin, the reigning Olympic champion in the event, claimed bronze with 230.4.

Valarivan led the final for much of the competition, including after the opening 10 shots, when she held 106.0 points. Taichi remained within striking distance before moving ahead in the closing stages.

The day had already begun with a World Record in the 10m Air Rifle Women Team competition.
The People’s Republic of China, represented by Wang Zifei, Han Jiayu and Du Yuchen, won gold with a World Record score of 1904.2. India took silver with 1898.0, while hosts Japan won bronze with 1897.1.
The individual final featured two athletes from India and Japan, as well as representatives from China and the Republic of Korea. China’s Wang Zifei finished fifth with 188.2, while India’s Sonam Maskar placed sixth with 167.0.
