The ISSF Academy is pleased to announce the launch of a new online Shotgun Course for Athletes, beginning on 2 September 2026, led by Olympic gold medallist Russell Mark and international coach Lauryn Mark.
Designed for a global audience, the five-week programme is aimed at novice to intermediate trap and skeet athletes looking to develop their technical knowledge and performance through a structured learning pathway delivered entirely online.
The course combines more than 40 exclusive instructional videos with weekly live online sessions, where Russell and Lauryn Mark will personally guide participants through each topic, answer questions and share insights drawn from decades of experience at the highest level of the sport.
Participants will follow a step-by-step progression covering the foundations of ISSF shotgun shooting, from identifying eye dominance and selecting the correct shooting side to range safety, equipment selection and the development of sound technical fundamentals. The programme also explores goal setting, as well as the mental and physical aspects of athlete development, helping shooters build a sustainable pathway towards higher performance.
While the course is primarily designed for developing athletes, experienced competitors will also benefit from revisiting the core principles of trap and skeet shooting, with an opportunity to identify and correct technical habits that may be limiting their progress.
Most modules apply to both Trap and Skeet, while dedicated sections focus on discipline-specific techniques to ensure athletes receive targeted guidance relevant to their event.
One of the highlights of the programme is the final lecture, during which Russell and Lauryn Mark will conduct an online technical review of selected participants' shooting technique and equipment setup. The session will provide valuable learning opportunities for all attendees by demonstrating how constructive feedback can be used to refine performance.
Russell Mark is one of Australia's most accomplished shotgun athletes, winning Olympic gold in Double Trap at Atlanta 1996, as well as multiple World Championship and ISSF World Cup medals throughout an outstanding international career. Together with Lauryn Mark, he has become widely respected for his contribution to athlete development and coaching.
