Following the recent ISSF Executive Committee meeting on 8th June 2026, it is confirmed that shotgun shoot-offs will be re-introduced to break ties following qualification rounds and determine athlete entry for all Trap and Skeet event finals.
The countback process will not be used to break such ties for finals, but will be retained for determining all subsequent qualification rankings. The first event at which the re-introduction of shoot-offs will be conducted is for the Junior World Championship in Suhl, 16th to 26th June 2026.
The official 2026 ISSF Rules will be updated accordingly to this effect in the very near future.
National Federations and key stakeholders will receive detailed notification of shoot-off procedures and other minor amendments to the current 2026 rules by 1st July 2026.
There are no significant or fundamental changes, and these adjustments follow athlete and event delivery experiences after conduct of our initial discipline World Cups this year.
