Few competitions carry the tradition and prestige of the ISSF World Cup Rifle / Pistol Munich. For decades, the event hosted at the Olympiaschießanlage has been considered one of the most important stops on the international shooting sport calendar — and for many athletes, the best shooting range in the world.

The consistency and importance of the Munich World Cup within the international calendar is reflected in the long-term commitment already confirmed for future editions, with the competition secured for both 2027 and 2028. Next year’s edition will carry even greater significance, as athletes will compete not only for medals and ranking points, but also for Olympic quota places towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The venue, originally built for the 1972 Summer Olympics, remains one of the most respected and technically advanced shooting ranges in the world. Over the years, generations of Olympic champions, world champions and emerging athletes have competed in Munich, helping establish the city as one of the historic homes of international shooting sport.

At the same time, the German Shooting Federation is already looking ahead to the future. Plans are in place to modernise and further develop the range infrastructure in the coming years, with the ambition of positioning Munich as a strong candidate to host the ISSF World Championships in 2030 and potentially the shooting events of the 2036 Summer Olympics.
The discussion gains additional importance as the location of the shooting sport events for the 2036 Olympic Games is expected to be decided in September 2026.

The vision presented by the German Shooting Federation focuses on balancing tradition and innovation — preserving the identity and history of one of the sport’s most iconic venues while continuing to modernise facilities and improve the athlete, spectator and broadcast experience for future generations.

With its rich Olympic heritage, consistent presence on the ISSF calendar and long-term development ambitions, Munich continues to play a central role in the future of international shooting sport.
