The proposal, aimed at enhancing sporting fairness and clarity in competition outcomes, has been accepted in principle. The ISSF Leadership and Sports Department are now working on the necessary technical and procedural measures to implement the change.
The reintroduction of shoot-offs for tied scores will apply both to final qualification and the allocation of final start numbers.
To ensure smooth implementation, the ISSF is working closely with its technical partners, including results, timing and scoring providers. Once the shoot-off detailed procedures are confirmed, then these will be presented to the ISSF Executive Committee for final sanction.
The process will include the development of detailed procedures and operational guidelines to support the transition across all competitions.

Timeline and rule update
If agreed by EXCO, then changes are expected to be fully implemented by 1 June 2026, with an official addendum to the 2026 ISSF Rules to be distributed to all Member Federations and discipline stakeholders. This addendum will outline the updated shoot-off procedures, and the ISSF Rule Book will be revised accordingly to reflect the changes.
The first competition to apply the reinstated shoot-off system will be the ISSF Junior World Championships Suhl 2026, scheduled to take place from 16 to 26 June 2026.

In addition, the ISSF has published the new Trap format rules on its website, to be implemented in competitions starting in 2026.
