Shulzhenko sets World Record in women’s 50m rifle 3 positions at Asian Championship

Kazakhstan’s Sofiya Shulzhenko delivered one of the standout performances of the Asian Rifle/Pistol Championship in New Delhi, setting a new world record on her way to gold in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions event. Shulzhenko’s winning total of 358.2 in the final also established new world junior, Asian and Asian junior records, underlining an exceptional performance in a highly competitive field. Aakriti Dahiya secured silver, while Anjum Moudgil completed the podium with bronze.

The junior women’s 50m rifle 3 positions final also produced a high-level contest, with Prachi Gaikwad claiming gold ahead of Kazakhstan’s Tomiris Amanova, while Anushka Thokur finished third. Team medals reflected strong performances across nations, with Kazakhstan securing the senior women’s team title, while the junior team gold went to the hosts.

Earlier in qualification, Paris Olympian Arina Malinovskaya topped the standings, highlighting the depth of competition in the event. The final saw momentum shift through the kneeling, prone and standing stages before Shulzhenko moved into a decisive lead during the standing position, where consistently high scores secured her record-breaking victory.

Competition in New Delhi continues with the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol event, where the precision stage has concluded ahead of the final stages scheduled for the following day, as the Asian Championship approaches the closing phase of its programme.
