Air Rifle titles decided as Asian Championship continues in New Delhi

The Asian Rifle/Pistol Championship in New Delhi continued with the women’s 10m air rifle and 50m pistol events among the highlights of day four, as athletes from across Asia competed for medals at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range. Elavenil Valarivan claimed gold in the women’s 10m air rifle final after a consistent performance under pressure, finishing ahead of Japan’s Misaki Nobata, while Meghana Sajjanar secured bronze.


In the junior women’s 10m air rifle event, Shambhavi Kshirsagar delivered a standout performance, setting a new Asian Junior Finals Record of 253.7 to take the title. Manyata Singh finished second and Aneesha Sharma completed the podium. The youth women’s final also saw strong international participation, with Ojasvi Thakur taking gold ahead of Sri Lanka’s Umaya Ovitigala Withanage and Indonesia’s Yasmin Figila Achadiat.


The 50m pistol men’s competition provided further action, with Saurabh Chaudhary securing gold, followed by Kamaljeet Chaudhary and reigning world champion Ravinder Singh. In the junior men’s event, Yogesh Kumar claimed victory, while Uzbekistan’s Sodikjon Abdullaev and India’s Guntajpreet Singh earned silver and bronze respectively. Team medals across events reflected competitive performances from several nations including Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Kazakhstan.


With multiple disciplines now completed, the Asian Rifle/Pistol Championship continues to demonstrate the depth of talent across the continent, as athletes prepare for the upcoming air rifle mixed team competitions scheduled for the next day of competition in New Delhi.
